EU Energy Labelling

EU Energy Labels for Refrigerating Appliances

Since 1 March 2021, household refrigerating appliances sold online in the EU must display a rescaled energy label with the A to G scale. This is required by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/2016, supplementing the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation (EU) 2017/1369.

What does Regulation (EU) 2019/2016 require?

Regulation (EU) 2019/2016 requires household refrigerating appliances placed on the EU market to carry an energy label with the rescaled A to G classes, effective 1 March 2021.

Suppliers must register each model in the EPREL database before placing it on the market. Online dealers must display the energy label and product information sheet near the product price.

Who needs to comply?

This regulation covers household refrigerators, freezers, and combined fridge-freezers sold to EU consumers. It applies to online and physical retail channels.

If you sell refrigerating appliances to EU customers through your online shop, you must display the energy label.

What must online retailers display?

Online retailers must make two documents accessible to customers near the product price: the energy label and the product information sheet (fiche). Both are provided by the supplier via the EPREL database — retailers do not need to create or assemble this data themselves.

The energy label for refrigerating appliances includes the following information:

  • Energy efficiency class (A to G scale)
  • Annual energy consumption in kWh
  • Total volume of all refrigerating compartments in litres
  • Total volume of all frozen food compartments in litres
  • Airborne acoustical noise emission class (A to D)
  • QR code linking to the product's entry in the EPREL database

The product information sheet contains further technical details and is available for download in all 24 official EU languages via the EPREL database.
